1996 30A3 Tohatsu Gearcase

I have a 30hp tohatsu that will not stay in forward gear.Does anyone have a good diagram of this lower unit? I have replaced dog clutch,spring, pins and even tried to reverse the clutch without any help. I can put it into forward and use my foot to turn prop while holding drive shaft by hand.It seems to make a noise and then slips. Thanks
 
Would you explain how it ratchets and still has torque to put the boat on plane? I'm confused, since reverse doesn't do this. Thanks
 
I understand the concepts of a ratchet. What my question is (how can or why can it ratchet by turning it by hand but not while it is underway)? Thanks for help..
 
If it's a RH prop setup, then turning the prop clockwise, it will ratchet. Not so if turning it CCW.
