Won't start. Gotta be fuel or spark, right?

Assuming it's not slipped timing, or some other oddball thing, then the old fuel or spark is the problem is correct, right? Aaaa...no.

It happened to me today, and it took a while (I'm a bit slow) to figure it out. Perfectly good running 305 Mercruiser. Usually starts right up and idles fine; goes into gear after a 10 second warm up, and away we go--no stalling. Beautiful...except today.

Cranked that sucker until I had to flip the battery switch to BOTH. Still didn't fire--nothing. Kept cranking and cranking and --voila!-away she went. She even held her usual nice idle and didn't stall in gear. So what happened?

Water in the gas. Our weather lately in the Chesapeake Bay has tried to emulate Hurricane Harvey; and since I'm too damn lazy to cover the boat...
