1977 35hp and 25hp same year are gear box interchangeable??

Hi all i have a 1977 Johnson 35hp 2 stroke with gear box that wont go into reverse dog clutch is worn iv found a cheap complete leg from a 25hp just need to know if they are interchangeable thanks john
 
Only the 1985 and later 25 hp gearbox will fit your motor. The 1977 35 hp uses through hub exhaust and the 25 hp did not get that until 1985.
