Installed Cdi pulse pack now shorting neutral shift solenoids

Installed Cdi pulse pack on my 1972 100 hydro-electric shift. Instructions called for removal of clipper circuit so I did. it did not take long to realise i needed a jumper to replace that circuit to get the engine to run. Now after a few minutes of running it shorts out the neutral shift solenoid.
Went to Cdi site there they recommend installing a regulated rectifier. Will this solve my problem or is there something else?
 
I took a lot of those clippers off years ago and never had to install a regulator. In fact, they didn't have them. You've got something else wrong. Check your wiring.
 
The regulated rectifier is a good idea to perhaps protect the new pack, however. But I've never done one personally.
