85 hp force

I have a 89 85 hp force ive replaced the water pump and put carb kits on all the carbs it will start only if i hold the choke and then it dies can anyone help figure out whats wrong
 
Sounds like the rebuild wasn't done right??
The air screws set at 1 and 1/8th turn out?
Missing gasket?
Fuel pump diaphragm bad?
 
Thank you jerry i know the carb kits are right it was only a bowl gasket and i set the mixture screw at one should it be 1 and eighth
 
I should have said: the carb cleaning might not have gotten the low speed system cleaned right.
The initial setting should be 1 1/8 to 1 1/2
Then adjusted from there.
The factory sent out a bulletin that all 85' 1985-1990 should be set at 1 turn out and left there.
BUT!! I've found some work better at 1 1/8
One of my customers his 85/85 wouldn't run unless they were set at 3 turns out.

Set at 1 1/8 and adjust from there.
Motor warm and in water, preferably in gear.
RPM's about 750-800 (final setting)
 
Thanks again jerry ive notice something else im wondering if my fuel pump diaphragm is bad because when i pump my bulb the gas pours out of the bottom carb
 
That's the needle in the carb not seating.
Clean the carb.

Then install a filter between the pump and the carb.
