Might not be corrosion since I once saw a Volvo drive that had been painted with black anti fouling that looked like that :-(....
Still "proceed with caution" !!! Good advice with any used drive, especially one of that age. Failing to properly maintain the "zincs" can result in very expensive repairs.

BTW... replace the bolts that hold the swim platform. The rust stains on the hull are an indication that the bolts, if stainless, are cheap hardware store types and not "marine". Those bolts (hopefully and not screws!) are likely to fail at an inopportune moment. I've see it happen. Be sure the holes thru the transom for the bolts are sealed otherwise you are looking at future (if not present!) dry rot in the transom at the bolt holes.

thank you very much for the good help! i will have very very caution because i ve notice that there is a LOT of work to do in the boat and i really think that it has a rotted transom... my project is to first try to put somme good work on the engine like try to replace somme parts and put it at good condition, then ill try to restore this old hull and thats another story that i will try to make a post in this forum. if i do not get the engine running, well i think i will sell it for parts and recover somme money back that could help me get another one good engine..

anyway i will put this engine out and share here somme fotos! Thans again! im gonna try to find what OHC engine is.. :D

I would first examine the structural transom core and the stringer cores. If the core material is bad, this quickly becomes an expensive and labor intensive project!

Proceed with your eyes wide open! :)

well thank u by the hope you give me Sandkicker... ;) but i realy want to do something about this boat and engine, and for now im gonna start slowly and step by step, reading and learning and asking the people who know it for good advices. im not afraid of hours and hours of sanding and bonding and glassing... its a hobbie, not a Job...

The old fishermans in my hometown, they say this is a good old engine and by now im waiting till the end of August to receive a visit of a good friend german (who is a Mecanic Enginheer and also a Skipper) to see if we can put somme good life on this old engine..

its not been easy for me to realy see what HOC cylinder engine i do have... can u help me how to find?

For what it's worth....I have never seen a AQ140a...but I have a AQ145a in my boat and it looks exactly the same as yours..same heat exchangers, dual carbs etc...not sure what the differences are between the two...if any.
