'96 Force 9.9 hp

I have a '96 9.9hp Force. It starts fine with one or two pulls. After running for a few minutes it will die and won't start back until it is cooled off. It pumps water fine so I don't think it is overheating. It runs great till it suddenly dies. Just here to get some help as to what the issue is I'm not familiar with these motors. Any help appreciated. Thanks
 
It could be full of sand and crud not allowing the water to circulate???

Where do you operate? shallow, sandy, muddy?

I bought a heat gun from Amazon(or was it Harbor Freight?) 16$

Since it doesn't have an alarm system you need to test it?
Get it running again and see if you can touch the head and not burn.
It gets hot but not so hot you can't keep your fingers on it.

Pull the impeller and change it.

The pic shows a part from a motor that was pumping AND getting hot.
Even if it looks good, change it.thermo.jpg
