I would like to relocate start/house batterys (two) from aft. deck to forth deck.

2004 Johnson 175HP model J175PLSRB

?1.can I extend start battery cable by 17'?

?2.what awg cable size? the orginal cable connected to engine is kindof thin.

thanks TB

yes there will be much more bouncing around w/ batterys up front

I would like this weight forward also keep them out of the salt air.

?1.aren't the modern type batterys (like optima) that are designed for the extra vibration?

?2.I'm concerned that the extra 17' will weaken the output voltage where the engine will be deprived of required starting voltage?

Maybe I just move house battery forth then relocate the start battery to cuddys dry storeage just in front of helm
?3.this would reduce the 17' extension to 11' will the dry storeage box have to be vented.

edit I have plastic battery boxs for both batterys.
Thanks TB

Sure, the long run will cause voltage drop unless you use heavy enough cables. I didn't include an opinion on wire size, because I haven't taken the time to research it. Perhaps #2 Ga.??

You can do that, but it is kind of tough on batteries. Too much shaking, pounding and banging on them.
how about just in front of helm stored in the cuddies dry storage this will also shorten cable lenght.

I think this location is a tad forth of center of gravity which is what I want.
