Default Omc 175hp electric shift lower swap compatibility

    Hello,
i have a question that pertains to the gears in a 175hp stringer lower unit..it's mated up with a 5.0 ford in a 1977 reinell cuddy,
my cavitation plate is broken off on the on side of my lower unit and this has been causing me to have problems getting up on plane. I found a lower that came from a v6, it's the exact same profile and size of my 175 outdrive, but it's from a V6. Anyone know if I could swap just the lower units out without causing myself any other issues? Or would I need to swap out all the gears and etc to the lower unit that has its cavitation plate in tact?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you, Jason

As far as I know the lowers are all the same.---Gear ratio changes were in the upper gear box.

Awesome... thank you for the info on that
that should be an easy swap then If the shift cable on this other unit happens to be frayed, can I butt connect the wires and heat shrink? And what kind of grease should I use on the gearshift splines?
