I have a 2002 Mercury 4-stroke 40hp motor with a Stiletto steel prop. It has a Guardian SQ-Lok hub system. The hub system is made of nylon with a brass spline. The prop nut spacer is also nylon. The instructions for the hub system says to tighten the prop nut to the specs in the motor's manual which is 55 ft/lbs. When I tried to do this it crushed the prop nut spacer. I had to buy a new hub system to get another prop nut spacer.

What should I torque the prop nut to? Should I just tighten the nut as tight as I can without crushing the spacer & secure the prop nut with the tab washer?

This link goes to the hub system. It is MAR-C011H-UB-00. http://bblades.com/shop/hub-kits/turbo-hub-kits/turbo-hub-kit-mercury-4-stroke/
