I'm trying to trouble-shoot an engine temperature issue. My temperature gauge sporadically shows some creep, which goes back down by reducing rpms. A heat gun shows that the engine is stable, running consistently at 195, even when the gauge is over 200 and halfway in the red. I'm getting no alarms. Since the engine apparently is not overheating, that leads me either to the sensor, the MDI interface or the gauge itself. It it were the sensor, I would think I would get an audible alarm because I believe it is controlled by the same sensor; I'm getting no alarm. That leads me either to the MDI interface or the gauge. Any flaws in this logic? Any ideas of an easy way to diagnose this? I'm inclined to start by replacing the gauge. It seems cheaper than purchasing all the diagnostic gear.
