I was having a problem with water getting in around my flywheel and shorting out my starter. I removed the powerhead to replace the seals around the driveshaft. I tried to align the marks on the two shift shaft gears, but this is near impossible as you cannot see the gears when lowering the engine in place. It felt good, and after i fired the engine up i could shift into forward but then the gears became misaligned. So i eventually removed the engine again to focus on the shaft alignment. Again it shifted into forward and came loose. I believe the gear that comes thru the powerhead is not aligned vertically. I cannot find a way to get these gears aligned so that they stay there. Any help is appreciated, preferable to boot remove the engine again.
