Tohatsu 25HP M25c3 engine won't tilt

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the marine world but am now the proud owner of a 2006 tohatsu 25hp M25c3 2 stroke (on a 13ft Dory) !

With the engine mounted on the transom when I try to tilt the engine up it won't tilt. It used to absolutely fine. There is a small clip that engages it to the adjustable pin for the trim. As far as I'm aware this clip should only be engaged when the engine is in reverse to stop the thing tilting up and out the water when thrust is applied. The clip is now engaged in forward neutral and reverse which I'm sure it shouldn't be?

You can manually lift the clip to release the engine but it should be free when in forwards in case you hit an obstruction then the engine can ping/tilt up and therefore not rip off the transom.

So I guess what I'm asking is has anyone else had this problem and do you know how to fix it please?

Flip the reverse lock lever (with the red tip), and you should be OK.

Hi, thanks for that but still unable to lift with reverse lock released!

It's a simple mechanism. The lever operates the catch. Look to see what is happening.
