4.3 cobra no neutral

So I have a 20' cuddy with a 4.3. The boat shifts into neutral fine when off, prop spins free with no noise. In the water, I can't get into neutral. It's either in forward idle or reverse idle. I can have the shifter dead in neutral and it won't find neutral. I had to do some work to it Last week I put it in a tank and was running it. Could shift into F and R, and in neutral worked fine. Could spin the prop with a stick while engine running. Back into water yesterday and same thing. I can't get neutral in the water. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Ayuh,.... Sounds like the shift interrupt switch ain't workin',....

Unfortunately,... I donno how OMC wires it,...

so if the shift interrupt isn't working, will the engine speed be too high to have it slip into neutral?
