OMC control box question. HELP!

OMC control box will not shift out of neutral unless I depress the ball bearing in back of shifter. No problems with it shifting from forward or reverse into neutral. It appears the ball bearing pops up a little higher when in neutral and lower while in gear. This disallows me to take it out of neutral without depressing it with a screwdriver. Is there something inside the box I may have worn out on the 04 johnson 115. If so can someone help me with a part number?
 
sounds like you have a bad control box, yes there is something your supposed to press in to get it out of nutral, but what is this about ball bearing ?
dont you have a lever to squeeze ?

post a pic of your control box or a number for it. picture speaks a thousand words.
