Mercruiser 5.7 Compression Test

Hi all,

In the process of purchasing a 2000 Sea Ray 260 with a Mercruiser 5.7 EFI. Engine has approximately 850 hours. The mechanic did a compression test first thing this morning before we launched the boat and got the following:

Cylinder 1: 135
Cylinder 2: 160
Cylinder 3: 130
Cylinder 4: 160
Cylinder 5: 135
Cylinder 6: 135
Cylinder 7: 155
Cylinder 8: 155

They recommended we go out and run the boat and then retest afterwards. After running the boat, the mechanic rechecked compression and every cylinder came in between 145-160. We were able to run the boat at WOT and get a solid 4,600 RPM. The final word from the mechanic was that he had no concerns.

My concern is whether or not the compression test should cause me any worry, even though after running everything seemed fine. Boat ran great during sea trial.

Any input would be great.

Thanks.

Naw,..... I fail to see a problem,... Sounds like a nice healthy motor,....

A good maintenance plan oughta keep it runnin' that way,....
