Default Switching motors Mercury to Johnson

I am looking to buy a Smoker Craft Pro Alaskan 19', it currently has a Mercury motor (bad). I have a 1978 Galstron 15' 8" (the boat has seen better days) with a Johnson motor that runs well. I would like to switch the motors out and would like to know what needs to be done? Can I just switch out the harness? any help would be appreciated.

Are the the same height at the transom? You would need to swap out the controls, cables and harness. Youproably need longer cables for the controls. Just guessing you can just use the same steering cable. There is normally enough wiring harness looped up for the controls. Got pics of both boats the smoker craft likely has a 20inch transom.
It takes a nickle to go first class!
If it aint broke dont fix it!!
