Default 41dp Volvo penta diesel salt water getting into oil when stopped in a following sea through exhaust.

We have an adp41 stern drive diesel either 1999 or 2000. When anchored or stopped in a following sea and boat loaded with extra ice and coolers on board, saltwater is coming in through the outdrive exhaust and ends up in the oil pan. Can we prevent this? It is happening on the port engine. That side of our boat has more weight and sits a few inches lower in the water. We hear there used to be a butterfly valve in the exhaust elbow but they are not available that we know of. Are there any fixes for this problem.

Are you saying that you are getting water in your engine oil from this or is the water going somewhere else? Water in the engine oil would suggest that the water is going through the exhaust into the cylinders, in which case it is extremely lucky that the engine hasn't hydrolocked and been destroyed.

Water is coming in through exhaust flaps on outdrive and mixing with our oil. Caught it right away and came home on one engine. We think it gets into the oil through the oil pressure relief hose that dumps into the exhaust. Only happens on the port engine when they are off and we anchor or drift for halibut in a following sea. The transom is sitting lower than usual due to extra weight on the boat. Pumped out the chocolate oil and cleaned it with sea foam. Has happened the last two summers. We need a fix. There used to be butterfly valves in exhaust

Yes the water is coming through the exhaust we think through the oil overflow that empties into the exhaust. We heard there use to be a butterfly valve in the exhaust elbow but is no longer made. Is there another solution? The two times it happened the engines were off while we drifted or anchored for halibut in a following sea. We don't like to idle the engines while we drift and fish fo 30 min to an hour. It occurs when our boat has more weight and ice in coolers on board on overnight trips in the summer. The port side of the boat sits lower in the water by 1-2 inches because of weight distribution on the boat. Water is coming through the outdrive exhaust We caught it because we check oil at night after fishing. Looking for a fix

I think your getting salt water through your exhaust risers they perhaps are to low especially when in reverse
