Water Leak?

Hello:

I'm a new owner of a 2006 Tohatsu MFS 9.8 A3 ULS / SailPro. (I made it a ULS / SailPro today; it shipped as a Long Shaft.) When I run it in the water, it pours a steady stream of water from a weep hole in the front of the extended drive shaft housing.

If I understand the design correctly, the drive shaft housing has 2 chambers: the rear (smaller) section contains downward moving exhaust gases and hot water. The front (larger) section contains the drive shaft, shift linkage, and the cold water tube (with upward moving cold water). I am leaking water in this latter "dry" section.

I believe that either the upper water tube seal or lower water tube seal is leaking some water. It's not filling up the shaft housing, and the pump indicator stream from the powerhead is strong so I'm not worried about the pressure that the engine is receiving.

Is it normal for a significant amount of water to leak out of the "dry" half of the drive shaft housing? Can I live with it for now?

Thank you in advance to anyone who has dealt with a similar issue.

Tavis
