On a 2015 mercury 150 outboard hood latch won't release

Is your engine serial number handy to try and see what "your" cowling latch lock consists of on a parts diagram? Maybe seeing the parts will help give a better visual of what might need to happen to get it to open easier for you.

Does the handle latch turn? And does it seem/sound like the mechanism is turning on the inside too at all?

Sometimes you may have to pull/push down or sort of wiggle the cowling around a bit to help free the mechanism up enough to pop it open.
