Johnson 1974 20 hp : it leaks a thick, sticky, black oil.

Johnson 20 hp , 1974 engine...........after I run it and park it, I come back to find it has leaked a thick, sticky black oil. What's up ? Ideas ? Advice welcome. Louie in KY
 
This topic seems to come up every day !-----Could be normal on a 2 stroke motor.-------------But if you are worried about it do the following.---------Inspect your fuel pump diaphragm for a tear.-----------Check the thermostat found on top of the cylinder head.--------------And pressure test the lower unit in case it is leaking.
