1997 Mercury XR6 not firing.

I have a 97 Mercury XR6 150 that is carburated not EFI. It still had the oil injection system on it and I thought it was not working as I was premixing oil to be sure. It starting fouling plugs pretty regularly. I took off the oil injection hose and plugged it off and it ran for about 2 minutes and shut down. It is not firing I assume from the oil shutdown. I ordered a mercury oil block off kit from a Mercury dealer and put it on. I unplugged the shut down module and it still is not firing. Anything I could be missing? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Nothing in the oil system will prevent if from firing. From it fouling plugs and spark quitting I suggest a stator test.

OK thanks! I guess I was confused about the shutdown. It had an alarm light by the console and I didn't know if you had to reset something to get it to fire again.

Try an open air gap spark test.
