1968 6hp Evinrude Water Pump

Hello,

Do I have to remove the power head to disconnect the shift rod in order to replace the water pump the same as the 1963 5.5HP engine?

Powerhead does not need to come off.-----------Slowly rotate the flywheel or driveshaft as lower unit comes down.------That wee pin on the top of the driveshaft must come through a slot.----------If the 68 is a high hrs motor then inspecting that seal assembly at the top of the driveshaft is a good idea.
