82 Evinrude 70HP starting problem - SOLENOID ASSEMBLY failed?

So this is my first boat and only been out on it a fw times and always having problems trying to start it even when the engine has been running it cranks over fine but just won't start.

I got a new battery, spark plugs and ran a new fuel line yesterday and still no joy.

I was looking over the engine (I'm not expert) but the solenoid looks in bad condition and I'm sure that controls in air intake so just putting 2 and 2 together.

Would that make sense? I've attached a close up of the item in question.

That's your choke solenoid. Get a new one, make sure you have power going to it and it's adjusted properly.
 
Sometimes, but the real issue is that I don't have the confidence to switch the engine off at all as it's failed to start again on the last 2 occasions and had to be towed back. Likewise if I start it out of the water and run it for 5 mins if I turn it off and try to restart it it just won't fire up. Cranks over just fine but won't start.
