problem whit my electric lower unit on my 65hp evinrude 1972

I start my boat everything is a1 , i put it on forward , neutral and reverse ,everything is a1,but when i stop the motor by the key ,it give a kick (coming from the lower unit. So what can it be ???
 
Sounds like the diodes are not keeping in nuetral untill the engine slows down.----Check the shift diodes and wiring!!
 
The clunk you hear is it defaulting to forward when power is removed. As racerone stated it a bad/missing diode..
