Hi,

We have a 1987 Trogan 10m twin 454s that we just rebuilt... After all of that we have now run into transmission issues... We have experienced that the motor dimishishes Rpms and sometimes stalls unless you put the boat into neutral. We can hear the transmission rattling until you put it in neutral. This doesn't occur until about 15/20 minutes into our trips... Everything runs incredible til that point and we are unsure what is happening. We have rebuilt carburetor and distributor also...it runs perfectly! So we are assuming these issues are being created by the transmission... Anyone else experience this? Thinking of rebuilding and or replacing transmission...thoughts as to what went wrong?

Thank you

Lisa

Does the "transmission rattle" only occur at the lowered RPM? Only one engine or both?

Did this "feature" start after the rebuild?

Did you verify the timing advance is correct?

Yes it begins to rattle T low Rpms just before it shuts down the engine. Only occurs in one engine starboard side about 20 minutes after leaving the dock. Yes it started after the rebuild. Yes have checked the timing twice and it is correct.

The 'rattle' is likely the damper plate and fairly common with low engine RPM (500-600rpm). A miss due to a bad plug or connection can make the rattle more pronounced.

I asked if the timing advance was checked, not just the initial timing....

Remember, nobody reading this is at the boat, so we can only have the information you provide.....

I'd suspect the drop in engine speed is due to either a restriction in the fuel system or an issue in the ignition system and suggest further diagnosis to determine which one is the culprit....

Any idea what was done to the distributor when it was 'rebuilt'?

finally, I would expect that the gear is just fine....they are one of the toughest pieces of mechanical equipment used on a boat.
