Heat sensors on 70-75 Johnsons Evinrude

The heat sensors are in the head look where the tan wire comes out. If it effects the running depends on the year and if the motor has S.L.O.W. What years are you talking about because the 70/75 HP motors are not the same. If the motor is from the 90s the sensor will effect running by engaging the S.L.O.W system. If it is before that it is only attached to the warning horn.

Just trying to learn more on these 3 cylinder motors the one I am looking at considering buying is in the early 90s were able to run it this evening on the water hose has not been ran for some months? started easily ran good ran long enough for a good warm up I checked compression with two different compression gauges with a very good motor spin all 3 cylinders had 100 lbs any opinions helpful thanks
 
If you buy it, do a good de-carb on it. You may see an increase in compression.
