Trying to get a handle on HOW FAST a MinnKota can push a boat of various sizes. Please post your ACCURATE speeds!

How does one get accurate speeds? Here's what I did: The corner of my dock... and the corner of a neighbour's dock.... measured on google earth.... are exactly 100.2meters apart. Grab a stopwatch. Take a run at the corner of the first dock, and start the stopwatch as you go flying by, and stop the watch when you pass the 2nd dock.

Try not to zigzag.

Repeat in the opposite direction, to account for wind and current.

I have found that most GPS's are not very accurate at slow speeds, and lack a decimal.

My data: To travel the 100.2meters took 73 seconds one way, and 84 seconds the opposite way.

Average km/hr = 3600 divided by seconds, then multiple by distance (in km), which in my case:

Average seconds = (73+84)/2 = 78.5seconds

Average km/hr = 3600 / 78.5s * 0.1002km = 4.6km/hr

For consistency, please provide the following data if available:

1) Boat description + anything affecting the speed (loading, for example).
2) Motor Model#
3) Current draw
4) Speed (for consistency, in km/hr please (FYI: 1mph = 1.6km/hr. 1knot = 1.852km/hr)). Pass1/Pass2/Average

Rock on!
