Mercury 50 HP exhaust out of vent hole in crankcase

I have an 80's model Mercury 50 3 cylinder 2 stroke. It does not idle and exhaust vents out of hole in crankcase, near the fuel pump before it shuts off. (see uploaded photo) I would appreciate if some may share why this happens.

Thank you
Ben

Were you fiddling with the fuel pump?

That looks like the port that (powers) the fuel pump (runs by crankcase pressure).

That threaded hole just below it looks to be where your lower left bolt should thread into.

I may be seeing this wrong (small pic) but that's what it looks like to me.

And if I'm correct, it's not "exhaust" being blown out, but your air/oil/gas mix in the crankcase. And that would explain why it won't run properly.

Thank you for your reply. It sat awhile, so I did change the fuel pump, clean the carburetors and started timing it when I noticed the smoke coming out of the hole. It looked dangerous because it was behind the pump, and the pump seems to work OK without the screw. So, he hole has to be covered by the pump and it will no longer spit out when timed correctly?
