Newbie CHRYSLER 5 HP

I'm new to this forum but have a few question. I can't find any info on this motor. The model number is 501 with a serial number of of 4700. I can't find any thing on this. I want to change the recoil rope before it breaks, do I have to take anything off before I pull the recoil assy off, looks real tight. What should points be gapped at and should compression ratio be around the 120 mark? Thanks guys for and all help. This motor is going to my brother-in-law that has some medical issues right now and I want to get it running perfect for him.

The compression as long as they are both close is good.
Different gauges read differently.

You sure of the model and serial#
I find nothing on the model#.
Other than they made the 5 in 1970-1976
Try sending an e-mail to mastertechmarine

The rewind: be caeeful and don't beak the spring.

The points gapped at .020 don't try to gap them.
Just file or use sandpaper on them.

Thanks for the info but yes the tag on the in side of lower house cover say model 501 Serial 4700. Weird cause I can't find anything close. I know sometimes ppl would put different covers on lower units but this tag is on the lower cover. I will try to add pic later if I can. It does say Hartford WI on the tag too

Yup that's where they were made in Wi.
Maybe you have a prototype or experimental motor?
