Bf225 sb 56

Hi,
i have just bought a used BF225 2002. Is it possible to see if my engine has been in for sb 56? I whant to know, outer wise i plan to do that the coming winter.

If Honda Dude is monitoring, he may be able to check on his magic computer. Otherwise, call Honda Customer Service at 770-497-6400 and ask if they have a record of SB # 56 being performed on that engine.

If you need a copy of SB #56 send an e-mail to me at [email protected].

Also on that engine, you need to check and monitor the mid-shaft bushing closely. If it fails, it can eat right through the cowling. Here is a link to a pretty good video on the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44ZaDzNck1I

If you have not already done so, I strongly recommend investing in the Official Helm Shop Manual. It's about $116 on eBay or amazon.
Don't know if these links are still good or not. If not, just to a search on either site.

Hi,
thanks for answer. In Sweden where i live Honda don't carry a register where they can tell if this is done or not. Therfore i am in need of leads so i can see for myself if its done or not if its possible? I have read about the bushing in the lower section. Planing to change that during the long cold winter.. I have just bought the engine and dount now mutch about it.

I believe that the Honda customer service desk keeps a record of all Honda outboards, where ever they are sold. Again, Honda Dude will know the whole story. If so, it would be an international call, but likely worth it.

Here is a link to an online shop manual: http://************/lib/honda/manuals/bf200.html#/0

It's dated, but these engines have not changed much at all. Go to the bottom center where is says 1/542. Type in a number and it will take you to that page. Then you can page forward or backward. Note that the manual page numbers are different.

I messed up on the previous post. Honda Service Bulletin # 56 affects the following engine serial numbers"

That covers my engines and they havnt been done. I called Honda and they said it isn't a recall just a suggestion so maybe it's not necessary. I asked them to email me a copy of the bulletin and they wouldn't.

Anyone have a copy?

Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I will return a copy of SB#56.

It's not just a suggestion! If your exhaust outlets are less than 6" above the water line, or you operate a lot in following seas, you have a high potential of ingesting water far enough up into your exhaust tube that it will blow the HO2 sensor. In the worst case scenario, you can pull water into one of the lower cylinders and blow the engine.

Things that will help mitigate the problem...
1. Make sure the exhaust ports are at least 5.9" above the water line.
2. Avoid rapid decelerations
3. When you start the engine, keep cranking until it starts. That is, don't "bump" the starter.
4. Avoid idling in following seas. If you are in heavy following seas keep as much power on the engine as is safe.

BTW - several folks on this forum have replaced the exhaust tubes with the re-engineered ones. The entire kit costs a little over $100 on boats.net. SB #56 walks you through the process step-by-step. The last page of SB#56 gives you the part numbers you need.
