Locked driveshaft

Working on a 80/25hp
The driveshaft is locked in the splines on the end of the crank.

Any way to remove?

I've hooked vice grips on the shaft and tried to hammer it down.
Doesn't move at all.
Usually I can get it to come out, NOT!!!

Suggestions?

You know Chris Carson? You might, considering you are in Sebastian.

Turn it over, let penetrating oil run down driveshaft to soak into DS/crank joint.

Then, re-assemble the LU to mid in the following manner. Install bolts, etc, with shims in place in such a way as to make the front of the lower unit closer to midsection than rear of lower unit. Put a 1/2" shim in there to create a big gap in the back.
Tighten bolts barely snug.

The driveshaft should now be angled as it enters the crank bottom.

Start engine. The running engine, combined with the mis-aligned driveshaft should break that rust lock. Don't run it long...a minute or so max.

See if it is loose then.
