Small 2-stroke makes screaming noise

I have an old 4hp 2-stroke Suzuki (DT4) that has been in storage for a long time. I don't know how it was running when it was put away, but I managed to get it started. However, after about 15 seconds of running it starts making a very loud screaming or squealing noise. I shut it off right away because it sounds like something is very wrong. Kind of sounds like metal-on-metal. My only thought was that maybe it could be a main bearing failure? Any other ideas?

Solved: A marine mechanic friend suggested that it might be the water pump. He recommended that I put it in a deeper bucket so that the pump itself (not just the intake) would be underwater. Quieted down immediately. Of course then it wouldn't idle, so I took the carb apart and blew out all the crud that had come through the fuel filter screen (which had torn), cleaned the rest of the fuel line and the fuel pump, and flushed out the tank. Running great now, just need to track down a new fuel screen.
