For me that is a simple fix.----Clutch spring needs work.-------Most big dealers do not want to or know about the simple fix for that problem.--------Your location ?
 
I am 2 hrs north of Port Huron.--------Same easy fix if this just started happening.--------You need the generator working properly too.-----------Have you heard of or know how to " polarize " the generator.-----Some on here will explain that simple procedure.
 
I just bought boat and motor first time out could not get on plane.Former owner says he ran it pulled tubers and did not have any trouble like that.If I attempt to repair clutch I will surely ask for advice from this site. My neighbor has a starter alt. gen. etc. shop. He is pretty good at getting things up to speed.Thank you for your time I have a direction now.
