mercury xri 175 efi shuts off eratically

I have a 93 mercury xri/efi 175hp outboard that wants to shut off eratically. Last time i had it out she shut down 3 times. Each time i was on plane and running around 3200 to 3500 rpm. It does not sputter, it shuts off. I then restart and it runs fine.

What can be causing this issue. Has anyone experienced this problem with their Mercury??

i just bought a 96 175 efi magnum and i think i may have a very similar problem... one day it might happen the next it might not. but mine will just cut out and start again in stride. happens at various RPM, different scenarios of running. i just cant logically explain why it cuts out and jerks on and off once in awhile....
