Got a new (old) engine. What do I have here?

I volunteer at a local non-profit and found this engine while cleaning out their warehouse. I bought it for $25, one buck per HP.

I think it is a 1974 model. Anyone know what the M on the end of the model# means?

Serial# E4021022

Thanks for any help out there. I read that these are solid motors. I'm looking forward to getting it running.
