Older 55Hp Chrysler Outboard Won't Start Hot Unless I remove a spark plug or wait until next day

I have this 2 cycle motor that I cannot get to start hot in a conventional manner. Runs well until I shut it off. I have looked at various forums that mention maybe coil, fuel issue, vapor lock etc.. I can get the engine to start when it is having this problem by removing the top spark plug and starting the motor. It will fire right up like a champ while hot with a spark plug removed. I reinstall the spark plug and it fires right up again hot like a champ. Any ides on if this extra information still points to vapor lock and or coil issues?

Do a compression test.
Then check the float level.
