1983 85hp Force 2 stroke

Just bought a 1983 Bayliner Capri with the motor mentioned. I've noticed when starting the motor, I would need to have the throttle at near max for the motor to fire up. Once it fires, it will run at 1000-1200 for a few seconds and start to rise of course. I'd then back-peddle back to keep the RPMs down until it would eventually hold at idle and run just fine. The motor rarely starts in the idle position and if does, or if I pull the throttle back too quickly the motor will die.

My question is what is the cause of this? Is this a fuel issue? The battery is holding a full charge during this.

As someone who is learning, what steps should I take/do to help improve or take care of this motor.

Thanks for any help.

Get a "factory" manual and find the linkage setup section.
It sounds like the idle needs to be set up.
750-800 in gear or about 1100 in N motor warn.
Find the towershaft, at the bottom is a screw and lock nut.
It adjusts the idle. Screwing in raises the idle.
You still need to set it up right
You have a tach?
If not you'll need a 20pole tach for it to operate.
Some (me) use a product called Tiny Tach. Udder 25$
Just hook to the top plug lead and a ground and read the rpm's.
Over on iboatsdotcom Chrysler Force forum.
Read the top couple of posts it has a post from FrankA
It's a post about the linc and sinc. of the carbs.

Oh yea, Welcome!!!
