Yesterday I was out fishing and was about to go from one spot to another. I was up to speed and only at about 3/4 throttle when all of a sudden the motor "fell" out of gear and into neutral. When I went to put it back into forward gear, the prop would not spin. Same with reverse. Like I said, the motor runs well still, just no forward/reverse. When I got home, I disconnected the spark plug wires and tried turning the prop. I noticed that the flywheel did not spin when I turned the prop in forward and in reverse, yet when I turned the flywheel, the prop spun in the appropriate direction for both gear positions. Note: I do not have any shifter cables hooked up, i shift it directly on the side of the outboard. Any idea what could be the issue, or what I should try next to diagnose the issue? Keep in mind, I won't have access to tools until the weekend when I go back to my parents house, so any testing I do now will have to be very rudimentary.
