Ratio for 1960 Evinrude Lark 40 HP

This always brings lots of response.------------------24:1 is the ratio for 1960.----------------But marketing and competition comes into the picture.-----------Folks think that a motor that can run on 50:1 must be a better designed motor.---------So it came to pass that suddenly motors with no mechanical changes or improvements could run on 50:1 in 1964.

OK..... going from 50:1 to 24:1 is a decrease of realistically half the lubricant. Any idea why would the service manual would recommend 50:1 for my 1960?

Thanks
Steve

?????-----------Going to 24:1 doubles the amount of oil.---------That is why some older motors are still running nicely !!!
