Mallory distributor problem, broken advance

New member
The centrifugal advance weight is broken on my Mallory YD 387A.
The weight rubbed against the inside of the housing and spewed a fine powder of metal dust all over the inside of the distributor.
Not sure this can be repaired.
I haven't found a YD 387A for sale, are there any other models I can substitute?
Thanks.

Have you tried a local distributor shop...?? Sometimes you can find somebody competent in an auto electric shop or a hot rod shop....they should be able to rebuild what you have....the other option would be to try Mallory - they have been bought and sold so if you don't have their number, use a search engine...

Rob, while the progressive advance curve would be unique to this engine, many of the older Mallory housings were of the same size and design.
I agree with Mark..... find a shop who owns and operates an old school Sun, Allen or King machine, and have them set it up correctly.

DO NOT attempt to replace these parts without having looked at the dynamic progressive advance curve, making sure that it is correct for this particular Marine Engine!
