Evinrude 50 sizzler not started in 12 years.

As the title states I am in the possession of a boat that has an evinrude 50 sizzler outboard. It's my father's, and he's used it a considerable amount before winterizing it and keeping in covered in the backyard for the past 12 years due to financial reasons. He has asked me to put it up on Craigslist because it has no use with us. But I asked if I can get it started if I could have it and he agreed. Since it's a 2 stroke I'm pretty confident it could awaken from its long slumber. Living in new England probably took it's toll on it but I still have hope. Any advice on what steps to take before cranking? Thanks in advance.

Check / change gear oil.-------------Use 50:1 mix gas oil.--------Fresh battery .----See if it will run.-------------Once that is established some more work needs to be done.

If it does get running, should I do so very momentarily? I'm guessing the waterpump will be all dried out.

You would feed water to the pump.------------If motor fires up and runs you would replace the impeller next.
