2001 35 hp power pack replaced still overheats

I have a clean 2001 35 hp 3 cylinder I bought last year. The previous owner said he had problems with it stalling and not being able to restart after about half hour of use. I had the power pack replaced twice last year. I started and ran it today with muffs and it ran 35 minutes before shutting off. Is started again after about 30 minutes but only ran for 5 min this time. Any suggestions?

I have a 1998 of the same engine. I'd
do two things: 1) pull and clean the
thermostat. Careful-it's an obsolete
part but it should unscrew fairly easily;
and, 2) check and replace the rubber
boot that connects the water pump to
the pipe that carries the water to the
head. That was the issue with mine
even though I had a steady water
discharge but the temp alarm sounded.

Hi there,

How come you think it over heats?

I'd be interested to know why the power pack was replaced twice last season?

Actually sounds like you have an electrical fault somewhere, potentially a short in timer base, that is causing your power pack to fail when warm.

I'd suspect you have two failed components - a power pack+ something else yet to be found.
