I have a 2000 PCM 5.7 and I am changing the alternator. I ordered the replacement for RA097006 and received the SIERRA PART #18-5957 which is the direct replacement. The new alterenator came in with the 2 wires red and black out of plug. My boat has the yellow always hot a black and a green wire. I looked it up it said green for ground,so i hooked yellow to red and black to black. It will not turn over and when I hold the key I pop the ignition breaker. Any ideas?

tru disconnecting the black and green small wires The yellow (always hot) goes to the output post ,If you have a large
black, it goes to the ground post. The other 2 small wires are "sense" reads battery voltage , and excite" ,has power with the key "on"

first or second pic?

the red pig tail must go to the always hot wire at the output post, the black goes to switched 12 v like from the + side of the coil. try that test the green wir for 12v with the key on" if yes .put that to the black pig tail wire from the new alt.
