On my 1982 Baja the selectrim works sometimes , it will move up and done at idle then quit when going down the lake in motion it works most of the time. The motor and pump sound good when working. Could it be the solenoid or possibly the switch. How can i by-pass the solenoid.
 
Agree to first check wiring and all connectors. But typically, the problem that you describe is with the up/down control switch. Pull the switch, check and clean the connectors then momentarily jumper the hot wire to each terminal lead that goes to each relay. If all works with the jumper, the switch is bad. If the switch is the problem, then see if you can disassemble it and clean the contacts. If not, replace it.
