Need HELP! 30 HP Mariner

the ID plate says this..

Mariner 30M
689 S 018124
Made in Japan

I can not find parts for this motor anywhere i look for some reason. Hopefully someone here can help me.

I guess thanks for the reply. However your sarcasm is not needed. I see the search feature. I see the diagrams. I type that serial number in and it says can't not be found.

I type in 689 S 018124 and I get nothing. That is why. Came here to ask for some help.

Sorry I posted in this forum... Guess identifying model/year/HP was the wrong place...
 
I agree with that. That's what I have seen from my research. However I'm new to motors and boats in general and don't want to order parts and it be wrong. Not sure why it's a 30a when the plate says 30m. I've think I have tore through the whole internet trying to find out what I got. Haha!

The he motor was given to me and runs great! Just need s impeller and the lower unit needs a rebuild probably.

30M models are listed there as well.---------Are those similar to your motor ?-----And have you checked whether the part # for the 10 or so models listed under 30 A are the same impeller ?

Thank you for the reply, from what i can see its the same impellar for most 20,30 and 40 hp motors. Its built by yamaha actually from what i have read. The motor even has stampings of yamaha on the block. Ill probably just order the one for the 30a model and go from there.

I drained the lower unit tonight and it was milky so now i gotta see what i need to do. HAHA! Like i said im a noob when it comes to boats and motors. I assume water got into the oil so there must be a seal bad.

Thank you for your replies. This might be a trial and error deal on the parts.

Your engine serial number is showing it to be model number 7030200 which makes it a short shaft 1980 engine year.

I was having the same problem trying to figure out if the 30A parts were the same for 30M. I have a 30M 689 S 013024 made in Japan. Id like to get a service manual but not sure which one.

It covers all those Yamaha engines from 1977-1989.


The '689' tells you it is a Yamaha. 'S' is short shaft. I'm not sure what the M stands for.


Some of these Yamaha engines were later used in 1990's Mariners but the engine design remained the same, for example my engine is a Mariner 30HP 689 -L - 552048 and comes under the 30A category. It was built in 1992 but I still use the 77-89 manual.


This manual covers everything including eight different carbs, different types of ignition. Everything you need.

I am told by http://billhigham.co.uk/ that the serial number is the ONLY thing to go off when ordering parts.
