Thread: Drain plug?

  1. #1

    Default Drain plug?

The coolant in my coolant overflow bottle was looking cloudy. As far as I know, the coolant has probably never been flushed/replaced over the life of the engine (1984.) Is there a coolant drain plug somewhere on the DD 671?

There are pipe plugs all over that engine. They would likely be either hex head brass or 3/8" or 1/2" square drive. Some for oil gallery and some for water jackets in the head and block. Sometimes people will remove one or two and install "block drains" in the form of pet-cock valves. But stock from DD it probably won't have any. There may also be a plug in the thermostat housing and one or two that you might get to in the water pump casting. If you poke around you should be able to find one to suit your draining needs.
    Good luck.
