Default which timing do i set 351w at 6 degrees btc at 600 rpm or 10 degrees btc at 600 rpm

    Hi All,
I looked up under 2 different PCM owners manuals--- one says for ford 351w set the timing at 6 degrees btc at 600 rpm the other PCM manual says timing at 10 degrees at 600 rpm. I have a new rebuilt 351w and I have to break in the engine with no idle time- start the engine up and immediately run to 1800 to 2400 rpms for 20 to 30 minutes to break in the flat tappet hydrolic cam and to seat the piston rings so I don't want engine detonation. We will be running the boat with engine out of the water = loud exhaust so I am not sure I could even hear the engine knocking or pinging noise. your thoughts please
    thanks,
    tmcboat

Pay little attention to BASE advance, and focus more on the Progressive and Total Advance and the RPM at which these occur.

I also posted to your thread in the Volvo Penta forum.

    Hi Rick,
Thanks for all your help --- do you have a PCM ford sb-351w advance curve and total advance chart or a site where I can google it?
    thanks,
