03 8hp 4 stroke burnt spot on mid section

Good to be here......
I have just purchased a very clean , great running 8hp 4 stroke...as far as I can tell it runs great, it has a new water pump kit installed and you could put out a fire with the tell tale stream....the last owner also said he just replaced the thermostat. ......my issue is the front of the mid section has a burnt section just under the exhaust port....the only way to explain it, is on some other motors it's where it spits out water that is directly inline with exhaust. ...no water is coming out of it, but like I said I have a great tell tale....it just doesn't seem right...it is only plastic shrouding....is there a fix for this issue

I'm not sure I completely understand what you are seeing but it sounds as if the exhaust cover gasket (see link below) may have failed. I believe you can get that cover off pretty easily and take a look in there to see if you can spot a problem.
