Vacum switch 2000 Johnson 250 vzsss

What does the vacuum switch do there is a small hose off switch with nothing attached can someone help with this how do you know it vacuum switch is bad Johnson 250 hp ocean pro year 1999

IDK? I wonder if it is a cutout switch to keep the motor from running away in case you lose a prop? Test the two wires with a ohm meter and see if the switch is open or closed then apply vacuum pressure to the switch hose and see what the switch does? Racerone would probably know what its for.
 
The vacuum switch is hooked to the fuel system. It will turn on the Check engine light if there is a restriction in the fuel feed to the engine. It is important for it to be hooked up and working. If there is excess vacuum in the fuel system the VRO will not work correctly and may not oil the engine causing a catastrophic failure.
